Liverpool are set to win the race for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, with reports claiming the Dutchman is keen on a move to Anfield this summer.
Van Dijk is one of the most in-demand players ahead of the transfer window, which officially opens in July 1.
Chelsea and Manchester City have also been strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old Dutch international.
But, according to report Van Dijk has indicated he favours a move to Liverpool, where he is keen to work with manager Jurgen Klopp.
It’s a huge boost for the Merseyside club, who had made Van Dijk their top summer target after their leaky defence almost cost them Champions League qualification.
The Reds eventually finished in fourth place in the English Barclay Premier League this season, and the club are prepared to spend big this summer to ensure their return to Europe’s premier competition is not an embarrassment.
It is claimed it will take a £60million bid – a world record fee for a defender – to take the centre-back away from St Mary’s.
The Netherlands international joined Southampton from Celtic in 2015 for just £13m.
The Reds are also prepared to make him the highest paid player in the club’s history with wages of around £200,000 a week.
