The iconic forward, best known for his time in the Premier League at Arsenal and Manchester United, made his start in the professional game at Feyenoord back in 2001 and re-signed for the Dutch outfit in January.
Van Persie agreed to return to Feyenoord after cancelling his contract with Fenerbahce and the Netherlands star was making his fourth appearance in his second spell at the club on Thursday night.
The Dutchman exchanged a one-two with Jeremiah St. Justm before delicately flicking the ball around Yoell van Nieff and firing a peach into the corner of the net. Feyenoord’s victory saw them leapfrog Zwolle and into fourth in the Eredivisie table.
The 34-year-old had to settle for a place on the bench at his home stadium but replaced Jens Toornstra in the 78th minute of the Eredivisie clash while Groningen were already 2-0 down.
Proving class is well and truly permanent, Van Persie made it 3-0 to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men just 50 seconds after coming onto the field.
