Spray Or Squeeze Naira And Get 6 Months Jail Term – CBN Tells Nigerians

The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has warned Nigerians against spraying the naira notes, condemning the rate at which Nigerians mutilate, deface, squeeze, spray and sell the currency to the point that it smells and looks tattered.
The apex bank issued the warning through its Assistant Director at the Currency Operations Department, Aladeen Badajo, during the commencement of the CBN two-day sensitisation fair held in Abeokuta today, Thursday.

Delivering his presentation at the programme which was aimed at creating awareness about the Central Bank of Nigeria’s activities in relation to economic development initiatives, Badejo urged the Nigerians to consider nation’s currency as a symbol of national identity.

Stressing the need to handle the banknotes with care and dignity, Badejo expressed concern over the huge amount being spent on reprinting them and stated that the abuse of the currency attracts a penalty of not less than six months or a fine of not less than N50,000 or both.
