Manchester City Confirm Signing Of Joao Cancelo In Deal Worth £60m With Danilo Heading To Juventus

Manchester City have completed a £55million deal for Juventus defender Joao Cancelo who has signed a six-year contract at the Etihad.

City have paid Juve £26m plus Danilo, who is valued at £34m, has moved to Turin in part-exchange.

It is City’s second big deal of the summer after signing Rodri from Atletico Madrid for £62.6m and will almost certainly conclude their transfer business ahead of the Premier League deadline on Thursday.

Manchester City have announced the signing of Joao Cancelo in a £60million move

Cancelo, 25, will provide competition for Kyle Walker at right-back but can also play on the left. The Portugal international has left Juve just a year after joining the club from Valencia for £35.5m.

City were keen to recoup the £26.5m they paid Real Madrid for Danilo two years ago. The 28-year-old Brazil international, who made 60 appearances for City, arrived in Turin by private jet on Tuesday to undergo a medical.

After the deal was confirmed on Wednesday night, Cancelo said: ‘City are a fantastic club, with a brilliant manager and I am delighted to be here. Everything about them has impressed me, from the facilities, to their style of play.

‘I am always looking to develop my game and win trophies and I believe I can do that here, so now I’m really looking forward to the new season and testing myself in the Premier League.’

Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football added: ‘Joao is a fine player and an excellent attacking full-back who will provide us with a real threat on the right-hand side. We have been impressed with his progress and have no doubt he can continue to shine here in Manchester.

‘He fits the profile of player we want here at Manchester City. His best years are ahead of him, he’s technically proficient and has the physical attributes we desire. I am delighted we have secured his signature.’
