Liverpool have signed England youth international Bobby Duncan from Manchester City, a source has confirmed to ESPN FC.

Duncan is the cousin of former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and will officially move to the Merseyside club on July 1.

The 17-year-old has signed a three-year professional contract, with Liverpool reported to be paying Man City around £200,000 in compensation.

The striker made headlines in November 2016 when he became the first English player at any level to score a hat trick against Brazil in an under-16s match.

The Merseyside-born youngster had been with at City’s academy since the age of 10, having also spent time at Wigan Athletic.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo in 2016, Duncan discussed the inspiration his high-profile cousin had provided in his emerging career.

“My dad used to give me a DVD to go and watch in the car and it had all of Steven’s goals on it,” he said.

“I used to watch that over and over again thinking: ‘One day that could be me’. I’ve always looked up to Steven. I’m related to him and like me he’s a local kid from Huyton.

“Steven’s been a big influence. What he achieved in his career inspires me. He always had that hunger and desire to win trophies. As well as talent, it was his attitude, character and leadership that made him the player he was.”
