Five Feared Dead In Ethnic Clash In Osun State


Not less than five (5) people are said to have been killed in a clash in Sabo area of Ile-Ife, Osun State. Eyewitness account says, there is tension in the area, following the clash that was sparked by a disagreement between a man and a woman, from different ethnic groups (Yoruba and Hausa) in Sabo market.

More reports have it that the Sabo area has been completely locked down as all the stalls belonging to the Hausas situated in Lagere area have been completely destroyed along with the goods.

Meanwhile, soldiers and police men have been drafted to the area at the moment in an attempt to manage the situation.

Speaking to newsmen on the incident, Imam Muhammed Basir, the Senior Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Arewa Matter, said the situation has taken a very dangerous dimension.

While confirming that one person was shot dead, Bashir also disclosed that reports from the state claimed that more than three persons had been killed.

He called for more deployment of security agencies from Osogbo to intervene since the situation seemed beyond the Divisional Police unit.
