Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone hailed his side and gave special mention to Antoine Griezmann after a brilliant comeback against Copenhagen.
The Danish champions went ahead courtesy of a shock goal from Viktor Fischer in the 15th minute of Thursday evening’s last-32 Europa League first-leg encounter.
But their lead lasted just six minutes, with Antoine Griezmann teeing up Saul Niguez with a superb cross to head home an equaliser.
The France international was key throughout the game, playing a role in Kevin Gameiro’s strike before scoring himself after the break.
And the turnaround was firmly secured courtesy of substitute Vitolo. Simeone was full of praise for both his side’s ‘complete performance’ and star man Griezmann.
‘I’m very happy with the performance,’ Simeone said, according to Goal.
‘We became more secure after the equaliser and all in all it was a complete performance.
‘Copenhagen came out as we expected and got the goal they were hoping for, but the most important thing is our performance.
‘Griezmann performed like he has done lately; the way we played, with a lot of combinations, suited him well, and he is in a good period at the moment.’
Atletico host Copenhagen at the Wanda Metropolitano in the second leg next Thursday.
