Antonio Conte has revealed that Alvaro Morata, Thibaut Courtois and Willian are all unavailable for Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Newcastle. Both Morata (back) and Courtois (ankle) picked up injuries ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup defeat at Arsenal and the duo will both be missing again at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Willian, meanwhile, started at the Emirates but was forced off in the 30th minute with a hamstring injury and replaced by Ross Barkley. ‘Morata and Courtois are out,’ Conte confirmed ahead of Chelsea fourth round cup tie with Newcastle.
Asked when the pair will return, the Italian responded: ‘I don’t know, it is very difficult to tell you today how many days they need to come back. ‘Morata has a problem in his back and Courtois took a kick in his ankle. [Cesc] Fabregas trained today and tomorrow I will check his physical condition and form.’
Conte confirmed that Willian will have scans to discover the extent of his hamstring problem. He added: ‘Willian is out. Today with the doctor, he will have a scan to evaluate his injury. ‘But I don’t think we’re talking about a serious injury.’
Cesc Fabregas, who has missed Chelsea’s last three matches with a hamstring injury, has returned to training at Cobham.
